"The
Bathing of Burns" in Stanley Park
Reprinted from the Celtic Connection paper, May 2007
Vancouver
- A statue of Robbie Burns, Scotland's greatest bard,
located in Staney Park, was given a bath recently
with approval by the Vancouver Parks Board.
Dubbed
"The Bath of Burns", a total of 22 members
from several Sons of Scotland camps gathered to participate
in the event held, fittingly, on April 6 - Tartan
Day.
The
maintenance cleaning was organized and funded by members
of the Lord of the Isles Camp #191, which was established
in New Westminster in 1899. Other local camps included:
Fraser Glen #220; Glengarry #212; Lord Tweedsmuir
#209; and Glamis #210; along with piper David Irvine
from the Seaforth Highlanders.
